I am the most disorganized person on the planet

It’s something that I have never been able to get a handle on, and I seem to stagger from one day to the next without getting anything done.

Over the years many people tried, some with limited success, others completely failing.

I guess I’m one of those freeform sorts of people and I guess it goes with the star sign, Gemini.

Yes, I’ve been to those time management courses with the books and diaries to seem to want you to time manage your life.  I considered it bit like micromanagement where your supervisor had access to the diary and put in the work, the estimated time and when it was expected to be finished.

I didn’t work well with deadlines.

But oddly enough most of the jobs I’ve had over the years have involved time management of one sort or another and I have survived.

Now, in semi-retirement, I really need something to organize my days so something gets done.  As a writer allocating 12 midnight to 2am for writing doesn’t seem to be a good idea.

Unfortunately it is the best time for me to write.

Anyone else out there with the same problem, and if so what was your answer to the time management problem?

  1. Charles,
I am your American female version Mini Me! I have journals laying around all over my house in which I write out my plans to work on my various writing projects. I am a published poet, and short story writer, and have now set my sights on completing a novel and memoir. As if that isn’t enough, I have joined a playwright group. Problem is I often misplace my journals and waste time trying to locate the one with my latest outline. I get distracted easily by something I previously wrote that I find in a desk drawer. I can spend absolute hours in the coffee shop writing, writing and writing. My mind won’t stop. I have promised myself that in 2019 I will be more organized. In fact, I wrote it down-my plan. I misplaced my journal in which I wrote it. I just found my 2019 journal this morning. It was under a book. I am obviously not one to be giving time management advice, but I think that maybe your night owl writing plan might be the best for you if that is the only time you have to write. This first two weeks of the new year I have actually been semi-successful with writing at least two hours in the evening after I get off work. I just hope I can keep it up. Wish me luck. I wish you luck as well.
